Banking and Finance are facing disruptive challenges: fintechs have emerged as new players in the financial and payments markets, new business models such as banking as a service and innovative blockchain-based technologies could change the competitive landscape altogether. German and European competition authorities are closely monitoring these developments and have initiated numerous high-profile investigations. At the same time, even purely financial transactions with foreign participation are increasingly drawing the attention of German investment control.
We advise on all sector-specific issues, be it on structuring fintech cooperation projects in accordance with antitrust law, on public procurement procedures in the financial sector, on state aid for financial institutions as well as on merger control and foreign investment control aspects of complex financial transactions.
